The IMDb summary is certainly intriguing enough to want to draw you in but also the use of a very large snake as a character in this short film is daring and unusual. Those two things work really well for this and certainly add something unique to the story-telling. However,

However, I think the film relies a little too much on the imagery of the “snake” being the embodiment of something “evil” and also ties in (albeit loosely) to something “unholy”. This is depicted in one particular scene in the film where the main character, Ben, is walking home and encounters a “Jesus freak” using a megaphone to tell Ben to repent.

The “darker” world that Ben is supposedly becoming part of isn’t really fleshed out enough for it to be a huge plot point. We only get to see this happening very briefly once Ben understands the nature of the “beast” he has befriended.

Short film’s really need to be able to tell expand on as many elements of the story as it can as there is only a limited amount of time to do this. It seemed to me that there wasn’t enough emphasis placed on the “darker world” that Ben is exposed to and therefore, the story itself seems unfinished.

Pity it wasn’t a tad longer. The snake was also amazing.
