This short film has just been picked up to be produced into a feature film with director and writer Colin Levy at the helm. Also, it features a very well-known actor – Jude Law who is only on screen for a very short time, but it’s long enough for you to want to know more.
Young actors Uriah Shelton and Zach Callison are believable as two teenagers having fun with technology. That is, until everything goes very wrong. It’s suspenseful and engaging.
The premise follows two teenagers who are hacking the drones that deliver goods to anyone that uses the “Nex Port” delivery service. They deliver everything via drones, which seems harmless enough. Until the prank goes very wrong and the two teens find themselves caught up in something way over their heads.
The drones are an interesting touch because they represent the “antagonist” in the film. You could probably go beyond just the drone and say that “technology” itself has become the malevolent force that is doing everything it can to catch the kid that hacked their system.
Jude Law’s presence in the film is felt from the moment he is on screen. And even though he only has four words in this short, it leaves you with a bunch of unanswered questions such as “How far is this network willing to go to catch this kid?” Whether or not Jude Law’s character is privy to what is really going on with Nex Port is anyone’s guess. But the scenes towards the end of the film suggest that something isn’t right, you just don’t know what that is or who is behind it.
We can see why this film is being picked up by the powers that be; it has every element you need in an action film; intense action scenes, characters you can believe, a situation beyond anyone’s control to fix which creates tension and atmosphere and kick-ass technology that looks all too real on screen.
This is a short film that feels like a feature film and should be expanded. It’s entertaining and paced well enough for everyone to keep up. Whether or not you’re a fan of technology, there’s something special here for almost every film fan to get excited about.
