The question needs to be asked – does anyone really care about Jared Leto’s Joker?
We rarely cover news in the film industry because everyone else does that so much better. However, the latest announcement about Jared Leto reprising his role as The Joker in Zack Snyder’s The Snyder Cut is big news. But have the fans been waiting for this announcement, or have they been secretly hoping it wouldn’t be Jared Leto?
Social media is blowing up right about now because there are a lot of fans out there that are in two minds about whether Jared Leto’s Joker delivered the goods. And there has been a lot of comparison between Leto’s Joker and Joaquin Phoenix’s version of the character for which they awarded him an Oscar.
Leto or Phoenix?
Comparisons between different actors and the characters they play is part and parcel of being a fan. The only difference is everyone has a voice now – social media has become a fan’s most useful tools for getting their opinion to matter. Remember how this all started? It started with the hashtag #releasethesnydercut – that’s a true story.
We’re not really all that hyped for Jared Leto’s joker to return, but he did a relatively good job of portraying the psychotic aspect of the Joker’s persona. And as an artist, we appreciate Leto’s vision for the character – he took the role to different places so credit where credit is due.
Todd Phillips Refutes Rumours of a Sequel
What do you think about this announcement? Are you in Leto’s corner or do you think it should have gone to another actor? And we should probably note here that Joaquin Phoenix’s version of The Joker was intended to be a stand-alone, one-off thing with no plans to expand upon the first film. Todd Phillips has also refuted the previous rumours that a second movie was on the table.
