WE ARE NOT SPOILER FREE
We’re slowly working our way through Halloween horror month and last night’s choice was this film which received rave reviews when it first released in 2018 with good reason. It is an excellent film.
However, sometimes re-watching films gives you more time to think about what doesn’t work in the film which we’ve tried to put together in this review. While the film’s plot and acting are still amazingly good, we have some real world issues with A Quiet Place that we need to get off our chests.
First of all, if sound is the thing that gets you killed and living in silence is what keeps you alive then WHY OH WHY would you want to bring a screaming baby into this environment?
We get that when the Abbot’s lost their child to the fiendish alien life-forms with sixteen ear lobes, it was a terrible blow. And that somehow, they might decide its a good idea to perhaps have another kid – which they did. But here’s the real-world voice booming over all the others yelling ‘that just doesn’t make any sense when a baby would more than likely get everyone killed!”
We originally fell in love with this film in 2018 and gave it four out of five then but it’s lost a star since then because well, we’re tougher critics now than we used to be. We like that John Krasinski had many hats in this film including director and writer but we’re just not sure about that glaringly obvious issue we have with the plot.
Still, three stars ain’t too bad and it’s still a film worth watching, that’s for sure so if you’re thinking of watching this for scary month, by all means and let us know if you agree with our short yet sweet review.
