WE ARE NOT SPOILER FREE
Is it me or are mutant films slowly becoming less and less entertaining? So this released some time back and we finally got around to watching it but we had read some scathing reviews which we tried not to consider when reviewing this ourselves.
One of my biggest peeves with this film is that for the most part, these actors are actually quite talented but for some reason, the actors seemed a little disconnected from their characters. We also noticed that at least two of the actors in this film dropped their accents many times while talking and that just became all sorts of confusing for us.
The gist of the film focuses on five young mutants who have been collected and caged in what looks like an old abandoned hospital by an unknown entity. The doctor that is in charge of these mutants is telling them that they are there to get a better handle on their powers but we know that’s not the case at all. So the plot seemed a little transparent from the beginning and the remainder of the story wasn’t any better.
The story of the Native American teenager was one of the only mildly interesting aspects of this film. But even that tends to get bent out of shape towards the end until it’s just really a matter of waiting for the credits. Anya Taylor-Joy was intimidating in her role as the Russian bully but she constantly dropped her accent too many times to count and that just got plain annoying by the end.
Don’t see this film if you have a choice. They just don’t seem to make mutant movies like they used to any more (I’m looking at you X-Men First Class!).
